My daddy’s old Transistor today reminded me of Radio, then AIR and then immediately I googled and bumped into its website.You will be glad to know that All India Radio, the sister service of Prasar Bharati’s Doordarshan is well alive and upto date.Established in 1930,AIR has been one of the largest radio networks in the world. AIR’s home service includes 376 channels located across India as of today which expands its reach to 99.19% of the total poulation.AIR has a number of services in different languages, each serving different regions across the country. The most famous of which is Vividh Bharati which presents programmes based on skits,short plays and music. Anyone who has listened to it can never forget the shows like Hawa Mahal,Bhule Bisre Geet, Jaimala and others.The External Services Division of AIR broadcasts daily in 57 transmissions covering over 108 countries in 27 languages with 15 foreign and 12 national languages.
Other popular services include Yuv-vani, the Voice of Youth,Documentaries,Cental drama unit,News-on-phone service,FM channels which includes AIR FM Rainbow and FM Gold and DTH service which offers 21 regional language channels among others.
AIR is not behind anyone and has made its presence felt on all the big social networks, be it Facebook,Twitter or Youtube.It has also made available on Google Play its Android app called ‘AIR News’ compatible for Android version 2.2 and above.
